Knit the Shoreline

Artist Madeleine Shepherd is working with knitters, felters and crocheters from groups along the length of the Edinburgh shoreline to create a large, woolly diorama of the Edinburgh coast.

Think pebbles, seashells, plant and marine species found along our coast, such as herring, seaweed and wading birds. Who knows, there might even be a knitted lighthouse, or even the Forth Bridge!

Madeleine has visited knitting groups to help with their work and we’re encouraging the public to take part in events such as a knit on the beach at Cramond for Worldwide Knit in Public Day!

See this work on display at the Edinburgh Shoreline exhibition from 28 July – 23 September. Keep an eye on our updates page to see how the project progresses.
