Join us for a half day workshop taking inspiration from the Royal Botanic Garden Herbarium seaweed and algae collections.
We will start the day with a visit to the herbarium to see some of the delicate seaweed and algae specimens which can be found on Edinburgh’s coast.
Then, artist and designer Susan White will speak about how she is using visits to the herbarium as inspiration for artworks for her own clothing brand, Rosamund of Scotland. With Susan’s guidance, you can then try your hand at creating your own artworks in mixed media. She will show you her techniques in rendering the beautiful and sometimes intricate seaweed and will briefly explain step by step how the images are made into textile designs, with some examples from our newest scarf collection. We will be using watercolours and pen and ink on watercolour paper.
The first part of the workshop will take place at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Herbarium, please meet at reception 20A Inverleith Row, EH3 5LR. At 11am we will move to the John Hope Gateway (a room which we can get messy with watercolours!), which is at the West Gate of RBGE, so please be prepared for a walk of around 8 minutes through a beautiful garden. Refreshments will be provided when we reach the John Hope Gateway.
Spaces are limited so please book your free place on: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/mixed-media-workshop-inspired-by-rbge-herbarium-seaweed-collection-tickets-56196182294
