I initially wanted to choose one of the more visible species – one that I had some experience of, bit when I clicked on the maps this one kept coming up and it felt meant to be. I had never heard of peanut worms.
I have learned about the habits and habitat of these varied worms, their role in marine food chains and seabed maintenance, and their importance as part of the history of life on our planet.
I chose to write a poem. I selected interesting words and phrases from my reading and given the worms’ smallness and hiddenness, a haiku seemed appropriate. I couldn’t fit all I wanted to say into one set of 17 syllables, so I made a set of six.
I used one sheet of A4 paper.
Take time to look at the small things. Seek them out or wait for them to appear. Not everything that is vital is visible.
