The Edinburgh Shoreline Project has worked in collaboration with local communities since 2018, and continues to do so. Forth Ports: Port of Leith Bus Tours
Date: Sunday the 7th of June 2026
Location: Cruise Line Terminal, Leith, Edinburgh
Time: 11:00am – 16:00pm
The Port of Leith is a historic port, which has a long and varied history dating back to the 12th century. It started as a small fishing village and grew over the centuries to become a major trading port that played a key role in Scotland’s economy, shipbuilding, and trade industries.
Four bus tours of the port will be taking place throughout the day. Whilst you are waiting for your bus tour, explore a mix of community stalls, food, drinks, and family activities at the Leith Cruise Terminal. With something for all ages, it’s a great opportunity to connect with the community and spend a fun day out by the waterfront.
Visit the Edinburgh Shoreline stall to learn about our Forth20-funded storytelling project, exploring community connections to the Firth of Forth and how local knowledge and shared stories can support more inclusive decision-making.
All Weathers: Harbour Lives and Coastal Traces
Date: Saturday 16th May – Sunday 21st June
Location: Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery, High St, Dunbar EH42 1ER
Time: Wednesday – Sunday 13:00 – 17:00pm
Artist Jay Kirkland will be exhibiting All Weathers: Harbour Lives and Coastal Traces at Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery from 16 May to 21 June. The exhibition transforms the space into a place of reflection. Using salvage materials and local narratives it honours the working harbour, celebrating its community’s resilience in the face of change while reimagining the traces of everyday lives washed back onto the shore. It includes the five Forthline squares created as part of the Edinburgh Shoreline Forthline project.
Firth Aid Campaign
Part of our Above and Below project is focusing on the significant lack of current data regarding changes in water temperature and water quality in the Firth of Forth which has been limiting appropriate decision-making in marine conservation efforts.
We would like you to help us by sharing your knowledge and experience of the sea, the coast and the marine environment. This will help us better understand local sea water quality issues.
We’d like to gather sightings of any kind of pollution you see as you are out along the coast. We are also interested in help from swimmers and dog walkers by reporting any ill health affecting you, your family, or your dog following swimming.
Blue Coastal Communities
Resolving trade-offs and conflicts across blue space values to support resilient coastal communities in the Forth River Basin
Edinburgh Shoreline is part of a Forth20 initiative called Blue Coastal Communities being coordinated by Stirling University and which aims to resolve trade-offs and conflicts across blue space values to support resilient coastal communities in the Forth River Basin
You are invited to take part in an online survey. This survey is part of a research project led by the University of Stirling that is investigating how people value coastal water quality and how these values have changed over time.
