Edinburgh Shoreline co-organised an event with University of Stirling, inviting those with an interest in Edinburgh’s coastal blue space to take part in a collaborative workshop.
Together, we explored the current and future threats to blue space quality in the Firth of Forth, as well as the social, environmental, and cultural values that local communities attach to their coastal environments. The discussions highlighted not only the pressures facing the Firth, but also the deep connections people have with these spaces.
The workshop was held in Leith at the wonderful Muckle Brig Distillery. We were delighted to be hosted by the distillery, whose generous provision of the space – complete with beautiful views over the port and the Firth of Forth – provided an inspiring backdrop for the day.
The atmosphere was lively, thoughtful, and engaging, with a wide range of perspectives shared and challenged. Conversations were both reflective and forward-looking, setting a strong foundation for continued collaboration.
A follow-on workshop, focusing on next steps and how we move forward collectively, is planned for late spring.
