Friends of Largo Bay are a group of volunteers who have formed to engage with the area to support and promote the aspects of life and nature and improve our community.
Hence we decided to take part in Restoration Forth and the 100 species project.
We adopted the DOG WHELK as it is easily found on rocks and rock pools.
Poem : THE DOG WHELK
Dog whelks, they are sea snails
that live in rocky pools.
They feast on mussels and barnacles
and eat till they are full.
They lay their eggs in thousands
in capsules in rocky pools.
They kill their prey by using
their proboscis as a tool.
It’s not an easy life they have
surviving the poisoned ocean.
Survival was hard enough without
human beings and their devotion
to tiny plastic things and chemicals and dyes
PLEASE tidy up your planet and open up your eyes.
We have created an exhibition at Largo Library and Community Hub including the following local groups:
Dog Whelk Sculpture by Friends of Largo Bay
Photos by Upper Largo photography club
Dog Whelk and shells heart and Poem by The Paxton Centre Art Group
