We welcomed SRUC students to a field day in Leith with the Port of Leith Distillery

We were pleased to support another field trip with this year’s SRUC students, helping them consider environmental opportunities and issues at a local and wider level.

We began the day with a walk exploring the development, environment and history of Leith. We then settled at the Port of Leith Distillery, wonderfully hosted by Fraser Walker, their Sustainability Executive. Here we gave further background by sharing the origins, vision and key focus areas for Edinburgh Shoreline and Port of Leith Distillery and how we, as a local grass roots charity, and a local entrepreneurial company, are collaborating together.

The students then worked in small groups to brainstorm answers to 2 key questions :

Given the shared values of these two organisations, what are ways Muckle Brig and Edinburgh Shoreline could work in Leith together for the benefit of all?

One of the challenges of coordinated community action is communication. How could these organisations improve and facilitate communication and knowledge sharing between organisations and communities in Leith and beyond?

As last year we got some great insightful thoughts and suggestions from the students who always bring a different perspective. Its an annual event we are happy
