Granton Walk with WWF

Having spent the last couple of years with WWF focused on seagrass and oysters we have been increasingly aware of the importance of local communities and their connection to their piece of coastline.
One local area, Granton, is going to be developed over the next few years, with a lot of additional housing and a coastal park. We we have been in some discussion with the council and developer about how more could and should be done to improve biodiversity and local community engagement. Our walk with WWF, Marine Conservation Society and Protected Areas Foundation allowed us to get a shared understanding of Granton’s current coastline, the balance between hard sea defenses, the development of new community spaces like the Gasholder and the Pitt social space, and how a coastal park may fit. More about this to follow over the next couple of years as we do what we can to help influence the approach taken for the best community and biodiversity gain.
