Karen and Leonie hosted a stall at Forth Ports Open Day in June – a chance to meet with other stallholders and to get an insight into activities normally behind the scenes at the docks. Alongside talking about Edinburgh Shoreline’s work, we also introduced our Shifting Baselines project, inviting people to reflect on their memories of the Firth of Forth and share their hopes for its future. Using community mapping, visitors added comments, stories and ideas, helping us build a picture of how people’s relationships with the coastline have changed over time and what they would like to see for future generations.
We did a lot of talking – and listening to people who were taking advantage of the big red bus tours round the docks and with our fellow stall holders – St Columba’s Hospice and Andy’s Man Club. We weren’t familiar with Andy’s Man Club although we had both seen the adverts at Waverley Station. A very inspiring initiative for men of all ages – more info here: https://andysmanclub.co.uk/
A very nice gesture was free ice cream provided by The Little Parlour! Well worth the effort while the rest of the Shoreline team were in Lower Largo at the Friends of Largo Bay festival on World Ocean Day – https://worldoceanday.org
