Granton MasterPlan Coastal Park Meeting

Granton Waterfront is the name given to the land between West Granton Road and the Firth of Forth, east of Marine Drive and up to and including Granton Harbour. It was an area of gas works, petrol storage and industrial and storage uses, which by the late 1990s was falling into disuse and dereliction.  The City of Edinburgh Council acquired land within the area and began the process of comprehensive, planned redevelopment as described in the Granton Waterfront Development Framework. The plans include a Coastal Park which will be subject to detailed design. This meeting at the Pitt on the sea front was the first of what we hope will be an ongoing process of co-design with the local community, local businesses, marine experts and other stakeholders

A group of people representing the local community, City of Edinburgh Council, NatureScot, The Pitt (https://thepitt.co.uk/ ), Protected Areas Foundation (https://protectedareasfoundation.org/ ), Soul Water Sauna (https://soulwatersauna.com/ ), Jon Dickson (https://www.marinetrees.com/ ), Flora and Fauna, Porty Sea Health Larissa Naylor and the RACC team (https://www.ukcoastalandfillresilience.org/ ) and individuals with an interest in research, marine and coastal enhancement, swimming and health and wellbeing all gathered on the sea front at Granton to explore ideas about how the Coastal Park could shape up.

The day started with a presentation on the shore at a low spring tide from Jon Dickson about the concept of tree reefs, followed by coffee and round table discussion at The Pitt. This was a very valuable networking opportunity and some key actions have been agreed to help drive this forward.
