100 Species

We know so little of the stories of the animals and plants that live in and around our coastlines. The more we learn, the less we can take them for granted, mistreat or ignore their requirements. Let’s take the chance to work with, not against nature, to remember we are also part of this picture.

The seas around Scotland’s coasts are home to thousands of amazing, beautiful & vulnerable species, all interacting in a complex web of habitats. Please do all that is in your power to protect them & to support research & education about our marine ecosystems.

As young people who live by the shore, we are very concerned about the plastic pollution that we often clean up. Please can we continue to push our society towards a bottle deposit scheme?

A couple of months ago I sadly found some bones from a minke whale on the beach near me . The bones from a flipper shocked me as they looked so similar to a human hand. It seems that a lot of whales are being washed up at the moment – they really need our protection.

Scottish Beaches are wonderful places full of life

So much life is present under, in and around our shores, all deserving of a clean and natural home in which to thrive.

Be thoughtful and care for our oceans and our species – they look after us, so we need to look after them.

Little people might not be able to make a big change on their own, but all little people making little changes are a big change on a global scale. The importance of changes we make to save our environment cannot be understated and they are everyones responsibility.

There is such potential to make the Forth a safer, biodiverse rich, place for us all. It is clear that there is huge appetite from local communities to get involved and help improve their local patch, and given the climate crisis we are facing into, their involvement and resilience will be essential to help bring positive change. Can you help encourage and harness this as soon as we can?

There is a quote from an 19th century philosopher that always inspires me – “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” Do what you can and it will help.
